I totally agree. I am about the same size as my husband but of course with fashion the way it is I am often taller in heels. I have absolutely no problem with this, nor does he. Others however do seem to and girlfriends often comment that they couldn't possibly go out with a guy smaller than them but still swoon over Tom Cruise - very vertically challenged!! What a load of rubbish. My husband is gorgeous, loving and fun. Their problem not yours.

I am also 5'5" (and a bit), and can say from personal experience that the height of a guy does not always mean safety for their lady (the lady just thinks it does-but she is wrong!). As was stated by someone else here, we are all the same size when horizontal!! Before I accepted the fact that I will never be the "tall" one, I had a HUGE chip on my shoulder towards tall guys, and picked fights regularly. Out of the several (well over 30) fights I had with big guys, I only lost two-and only because their friends stepped in to help. I am all better now (I think), and have accepted that I am just as good as (well, better than, actually!) guys that are tall! I bet this answer gets some nasty feedback from a few people too. he he "I was what I was, and I am what I am."

I'm 5-5 and my husband is 5-3 I know it is not a huge differance, but I think at times it bothers the men more than the women. My brother in law is only 5-6 and his girlfriend was 5-10 now that is a bit of differance and it still didnt bother them she knew who the man was, lol

As you can see from the other answers, there's no single answer that covers all men. Some like tall women, some average height, some short, some don't care about height.

im the same height as you and i couldnt go out with anyone smaller than 5'5" maybe i dont mind a man being smaller than me when ive got heels on but its a bit weird when you get home and you take off your heels and hes still shorter than you couldn't be doing with having to bend down to kiss him. At the same time i cant be doing with someone who really really tall either my bf is 6'2" i wouldnt like to be with anyone any taller than that because when we go out im wearing heel so brings my height up to just over 5'8" and doesnt look like im that much shorter than him then. Sorry i went the long way about explaining all that didnt i hope it made sense.

I've dated guys who were shorter than me (I'm 5-10 in my socks, so there's not a WHOLE lot out there as far as guys who are taller than me.) I'll admit, at first, it was a little weird kissing them the first few times (especially when you're used to looking up to someone to kiss them), but you're right...no matter the height guys are guys. I'm currently with someone who's 6-3, and I like the fact that I look up to him. There's also the protection factor.

I am 5:10 and i have dated women that were my height and shorter. Me personally i like my women shorter than me. I know that it is just me but i like the feel of a woman that is around 5:5 give or take a little either way. I have dated women that were a little taller than me. It is a little weird.

hehe... i have the opposite problem because i'm 6 feet at only 14 years old so i've always been the tallest of my class and it's depressing for a girl! even in the whole high school there aren't many guys who are taller then me! life is tough isn't it? scientifically, people are supposed to be taller in the north and smaller in the south of the world so i'll head north, you go south and find our happiness! ;]

5ft 5 isn't exactly small, but the vast majority of short men that I know are so obnoxious that I feel like beating them up.
I think that with some men who aren't very tall, they feel that they need to be in your face and aggressive in order to make their point - maybe that's why the majority of women avoid shorter men.
