A few years ago one of the Magazine programs like Dateline did a spot about how eggs that are taken from the markets after the expiration date were taken back to the ware house, put in different cartons, re dated and sent back to the markets.

Best advice USE COMMON SENSE ! ! !

Eggs are cheaper than cigarettes, soda, most spices and generally about everything else in the store.
They are sold in 1/2 dozen, dozen, dozen and a 1/2 and larger cartons.
Buy what you can use in a reasonable amount of time. Don't stock pile them.
If there is any doubt throw it out.
They are dirt cheap ( about 7.5 cents each in my area)

The very best way is to fill a glass of water or pitcher. Put the egg in the water. If the egg floats it is BAD if the egg stays on the bottom then it is good to eat.

You've got about a week after their expiration date before you should really throw them away. If you're really desparate for something to do with them, just make a whole bunch of cookie dough and freeze it. That way, you use the eggs and when you're looking for a cookie fix you just need to defrost the dough and bake it - no mess!

If you are worried about them being rotten then test them yourself.Take a bowl of water(deeper than the egg) Put the egg slowly into the water,if it floats throw it out,if it sinks eat it...they last a while after the stamped date.....

I've used them well past the expiration date, as long as they still look okay when you break them open and as long as they don't smell or anything.

Until you crack one open and it smells bad and/or has a weird texture to it. No set rules on this, just use your eyes and sniffer is all.
