Do you know the base where your husband is currently stationed? Do you know what unit he's assigned to? If you answered "yes" to those two questions, you may be able to have a process server go to the base and serve him. Can't speak for the other branches of the service, but in the Air Force we will grant a process server permission to enter an Air Force base and serve divorce papers once Security Forces has verified that the person to be served actually resides on the installation. In some cases, the Security Forces will actually escort the process server and help ensure the papers are served. Your civilian attorney would have to make arrangements for a process server to go to the base, and the process server would need to call the Visitors' Center in advance to make the proper arrangements with Security Forces, who will coordinate with the JAG, your husband's commander, the First Sergeant ,etc.

You can have your husband served divorce papers while he is on base. If you know which base he is on, your attorney can go through that Installations Civil Liason Office on base. They will assist you in this matter. I am not sure though how it is if he is out of the country. As a current dependent you can contact the closest military Installation office and contact that installations legal assistance office. They will be better able to assist you.

If you know his duty station, contact the Liason officer for that command, and the process can be arranged.

You do not need to be present to serve papers. Also, you can contact his C.O. or X.O., and get the ball rolling tword serving the paperwork for him.

i imagine your not the first woman to come across this situation... I suggest you have your attorny contact the base security department.... OR possibly the PAO office.. or if you REALLY want to make sure it gets done, call his LPO but if you do that, im sure that the LPO will tell him whats going on ...

and yes, the military does stick up for their own.

You will need to find someone with an I.D. to do it. We protect our own, so I doubt anyone would sell-out a fellow service member for an hysterical ex wife. I wouldn't.
