Coffee has caffeine, which is a stimulant. It may cause insomnia in some people...but if they have raised their resistence by consuming a lot of coffee throughout the day, it may not have any adverse reactions. It all depends on the individual person. Coffee can also cause heart palpitations in some, but not in all people.

I do not think coffee causes insomnia. I have found however, that for me it is best not to drink coffee for a couple of hours before going to bed as I have seen it affect some people's sleep patterns.

For example, my wife does "toss and turn" all night if she has coffee anytime in the late evening.

With my own love of great coffee, I consider it all small price to pay if it would cause a little insomnia by drinking too much coffee
perhaps a little too late in the evening.

There are few things more pleasureable in life than a great cup of gourmet coffee.

it's said to cause a kind of insomnia but in huge doses and to people sensitive in caffeine. normal consumption and amounts wouldn't do any harm.
The thing with caffeine is that it gathers all your power to be spent in less time than i normally would. to some people it takes hours for this process to complete and if they get more and more coffee then they just can't sleep. insomnia- formally is a mental situation where you can't get any sleep at all for some time, not just for a night over 10 cups of coffee.

It does not for me cause I drink a pot a day . i write small journals for a book I am working on and i need the coffee. I think the ppl that have a problem with it are predisposed to insomnia anyway.

It depends on how caffeine affects your system. I have to drink a lot of coffee for it to do anything to me.
