No, but the combined rate is cheaper than two individual rates; most companies offer a discount for insuring the second car.

"Purchasing" a 2nd car doesn't get u an insurance discount. INSURING the 2nd car with them may indeed get you a discount. I also find it more simplistic to have the 2 cars under 1 insurance company. Less paperwork and hassles to keep track of.
I have a 2nd car in my insurance policy (through State Farm) and yes, it is cheaper (per car) than having only 1.
State Farm offers a life-insurance policy for under $10.00 per month. If you buy this, it's an even better deal because now you'd have 3 lines of coverage. Perhaps other insurance companies offer the same thing.

It depends upon how many drivers you have. If you have 10 drivers in your family then you might not get a discount for a second vehicle because BOTH of them would be on the road constantly...
If you are the ONLY driver (no other drivers living in the household) then you will get a very large discount on the insurance...
But, it all depends upon your age, marital status, sex, and driving record... so you really need to talk with your insurance agent (or other agents too)

It wouldn't make your insurance cheaper because you are insuring more property and therefore the insurance company is exposed to more risk. However, insuring the second car on the same policy will cost less than insuring it on a separate policy.

The second car can be cheaper in this instance:
If you have a new, inexperienced driver on your policy, the insurance rates will go up. It may actually be cheaper to buy a second car (if it is an older one) and insure the new driver on that car than to have the inexperienced driver insured on your new or expensive car.

Most insurance companies give you some kind of discount if you have multiple vehicles and/or other stuff (like house) insured with them but it's not carved in stone, and is a subject of a particular company's policy.

some insurance company might offer some kind of discounts. If you get it, it won't be that much. Just remember to tell them that your second car going to be used for recreation only

yes and no, most car insurance companies offer something called a multi-car discount, so you would have cheaper insurance with the two cars than having each car on its own account with two different car insurance companies, but your insurance wont go down, it still goes up, just not double, also, the type of car will directly affect how much your insurance goes up.

You'll probably get a multi-car discount but it isn't much.
