If you buy a car from a private seller how do you get on about buying tags in order to drive the car home? With buying from a dealer its easier as you have temp tags? Any ideas?? Anyway you can drive it before you get the chance to buy tags?

This is one of those things that you're simply going to have to risk if you're in this alone.

Just go DIRECTLY to the DMV office. This means no stopping at McD's, or even to put gas, ok? LOL. If you get pulled over and you have your paperwork with you they will give you a break unless you get a total A**shole of a cop who woke up on the wrong side of the bed!

Take it easy, relax!

Drive directly to the DMV, do not pass go, do not collect 200.00!!
In most cases, if you have the title, bill of sale etc., with you and you get pulled over, the police will understand you are taking the car to the DMV. It isn't legal, but they usually understand. Just don't be careless and foolish. The legal way is to get all the paperwork for the seller, drive over to your DMV in a different car. Get the tags and registration, go back to the sellers and pick the car up and put the tags on before you leave. Or you can have it towed to your house. IF you are buying a car in a different state, you can get an out of state temporary from the sellers state, which will allow you to drive it to your state. As long as the title has an out of state address as the buyer, the DMV will sell you an out of state temporary tag. You can also ask the seller if he will leave his tags on the car until you get your tags. I guess it depends if he/she trusts you to get his tags back to him. That too is legal, since until you actually turn the car into your name, it is still legally his or hers.

Go directly to DMV after U buy the car. If a cop stops you on the way to DMV he should give you a break considering U are driving in that direction. Bring all your paperwork with you
If the car has current tags when U test drive it, there should b no problem.
