please see this link to the gary newman video. What is this old fashioned effect called? I want to make still images using this effect

its not an effect per se' its just an overlay. photoshop already have it, its called layers... you can set the fade and bleed on each layer..

Sweetheart, this video was made in 1981 or 1982. Ancient history by digital standards.

The effect then was made by feeding the video back into itself-by pointing a camera into a monitor and recording the resulting image off of the camera. Then it was laboriously overlaid onto the "clean" video and rerecorded.

Thankfully, we now have Adobe premier and final cut and you can do it using layers,wind filters, ect. Just go in there and play with the filters until you get the effect you want.

Well, since ou are talking about a video, you wouldnot want to do that in Photoshop. Photoshop is for still images.

It is an overlay and most pro-level video editing programs for the PC/Mac should be able to do it.

Its right that photoshop is just for still life, so for video, I use pinnacle. You will like it, it is really great
