I've just heard an ad on the radio so I'm thinking of going to Toronto in August with my girlfriend. We're both 27 and like music and would like to know what it's like there...

Is there much to do? What's the nightlife like? And most of all what are Canadians like?

...

Lots of stuff to do in Toronto.

1. CN Tower
2. Fort York (from the War of 1812)
3. Royal Ontario Museum
4. Royal Ontario Art Gallery
5. Casa Loma (North America's only Castle)
6. (Ice) Hockey Hall of Fame
7. High Park
8. Scadding Cabin (oldest house in Toronto)
9. Bata Shoe Museum (sounds weird but they have some cool stuff there, including Napoleon's shoes)
10. St James' Cathedral (built in 1797 and a sister of Westminster Abbey's in London, U.K.)
11. Yonge Street (Eaton Centre, plus all the shops)
12. Queen Street West
13. Yorkville (mostly for REALLY expensive shopping and Snob-Spotting)
14. Princess of Wales Theatre (one of the Big Three Theatres on Earth - the others being in New York and London)
15. Bloor Street

And those are just 15 off the top of my head. Plus, there are loads of great restaurants, nightclubs, wine bars, and there are tonnes of historic pubs in Toronto as well.

Stay clear of Scarborough (Toronto's equivilent of Brixton) in the East End and you won't have a problem ... and no worries, you won't accidently stumble into this area unless you specifically go looking for it.

Toronto has a vibrant nightlife. Its very multicultural and you can get foods from anywhere in the world. There's lots of music festivals that take place here, and aside from that plenty of shows, clubs, theatres, and bands.

There's plenty to do in Toronto. Basically, if you can't find something fun to do, there's something wrong with you.

What are Canadians like? They're people. From all sorts of backgrounds all over the world. As I said, it's a very multicultural city. Some are nice, some not so much.

If you navigate the link below you can get a feel for what's going on.

Toronto has a vibrant and ecclectic music scene. You can find EVERYTHING, and anything playing live in just about every corner of the city. Toronto is the best mix of the UK, US and an equal helping of international flavour. Oh, and we do have a huge indie scene of our own. Much like Vanouver and Montreal, music is the pulse of Toronto.

If you want a good guide to what's going on (young and hip) then pick up a free paper either called "Eye" or "Now". Couldn't be more interesting and full of reviews, scehdules, anything you need to check out the music scene. Downtown places like Lee's Palace, the Rex, Horseshoe, Rivoli..etc, etc. There are so many smaller venues - you can't go wrong.

There's even some great booze cans/raves/party all night options ...

As far as what Canadians like. Well, we are very open and like and like everything. Just play us a tune. And raise your glass!

I love Toronto in the summer. August may be a bit warm but it kind of depends on where you are from. As for things to do, if you want to see the sights, Toronto has a lot of them - you could spend half a week just visiting all the sights here. There are plenty of bars in plenty of neighborhoods in this city. The night club district is right in downtown Toronto so you can walk from your hotel to whatever club you choose each and every night you're here. If nightclubs aren't your thing, check with the hotel concierge and I'm sure they can recommend some good bars, with or without live music.

As for what us Canadians are like - well, I think we're a pretty friendly bunch. I mean, you may find some people who aren't but that could be true of any major city in the world. By the way, we have some pretty great restaurants here too so make sure you check some of them out. Check out this website for more detailed information:

I hope you enjoy your trip and, if you are going to have a car while you're here, check out our wine country down in Niagara as well.

From a British perspective...

Toronto is a fantastic city, especially during the summer months. the weather is great, the restaurants are superb and the bars and clubs are very cool. Most of the bars open what they call 'patios' which is a small outdoor area of the bar - a great place to watch the world go by.

You should give it a go - its a wicked city.

You can get very good deals to Toronto via the Low-cost and charter airlines. Links below (I normally fly with Air Transat who have never failed to deliver a good flight at a very good price)

The other thing about canada is definintely the people... outrageously helpful and kind. Sense of humopur closer to the Brits as well

I would say that Toronto is the place to be if your seeking a good time. I would recommend the goverment on a saturday night, make sure your well rested the music plays all night. If your into a more layed back atmosphere try Lee's palace. Alot of major bands(nirvana) started their careers in that small venue.

Theirs the typical attractions, CN tower, Ontario place, Wonderland.

And Canadians rock....Don't be afraid to make friends, start up a convo with someone and they can be your friends for life.

I'm to old to worry about music and nightlife but Canadians are very nice. They have the service ethics and can do approach of the Americans without the brashness!

Go up the CN tower and walk across the glass floor 1500 ft up if you have the courage! (I bottled out!)

Visit Niagara (bit tacky but worth the visit) and go on the boat Maid of the Mist and get drowned when the boat goes right into the waterfall area (they give you ponchos but you still get wet!)

Go across the bridge in to the US and visit the outlet mall for cheap clothes etc.

You'll have a great time!

Toronto is clean, safe affordable and has some kick *** restaurants and nightlife. Also we Canadians are pretty nice and helpful. You can ask us for directions and we do not bite your head off. Toronto is like the cleaner version of New York (great City)
