Actually a CRT doesn't Explode....IT IMPLODES due to the Vacuum inside it.
And yes, it will Implode if dropped....BUT it's very hard to make it dangerous. The implosion protection you hear about on picture tubes is only on the FRONT of the picture tube, it's designed to protect people watching the TV during implosion.
And that doesn't happen too often....

It will go "bang" if dropped from a substantial height (they are quite strong), but technically it is imploding rather than exploding. There is a vacuum inside that air will rush in to fill if you smash it (rather like a big light bulb). If the TV has power to it or is even switched on at the time, you might also get some flashes and sparks...
My advice is just to change channel or even turn if off and go out for while if it is annoying you that badly. lol.

There is an internal vacuum, it will implode.
They are very tough though, I remember trying to implode one using a powerful air rifle, in the end we needed two rifles fired simultaneously before the damn thing finally broke!
Therefore it will not explode, it probably won't even break unless you drop it from a very great height on to concrete.
I knocked over a very large CRT TV on sunday night, despite landing fairly hard on the corner of an open draw, it suffered no damage whatsoever
The glass of the tube, is very thick. That is why CRT's are so heavy.

It may implode , the front of the tube is very thick to prevent this happening if struck by a heavy object. The neck of the tube is much more fragile and breaks easily if hit letting in a rush of air if compromised.(Ex. television service engineer).

A tube will NOT EXplode, it will IMplode, meaning the the force will be inner, not outer.

the word is implode.
some radio one dj was doing this a week or so ago, not sure who, don't rate that station, or it's dj's much, but the conclusion was that they will implode.
and you'll probably get a bill from environmental health...

As dottydog says, they will actually implode. That is, it will collapse on itself. This is due to a vacuum inside.
