bare wood. What can we do?, oh, how can we make scratches less visible?

If it is real beech and not laminate - the only option to obtain a truly 100% quality/good finish is hard work I'm afraid!

That means sanding the floor down to bare wood and re-varnishing the whole floor!

Should take a day to sand and a day to varnish then allow 24 hours to dry before using the room!

Build up the varnish coats in thin layers - NOT big heavy coats!

If that is too much to do - the scratches can be touched up by using a brand name floor/wood filler to match the colour and then very lightly add some varnish to protect it!

Where the bin etc has been - you could try to varnish in thin coats to cover BUT even though varnish is basically clear you may see a variation in the tones

Is you floor real wood or that laminate stuff? If it is real wood you can put some more varnish on.You will have to decide wether the existing varnish is acrylic (water) or oil based. If it is old it will be oil based.Try a test patch in a hidden area to see if there is any reaction before going ahead. Also wash, let dry and sand down the area first.

If it's just worn rather than flaking then just re-varnish the area.
You can hide the scratches with coloured wax crayons. Places like B&Q sell purpose made ones to suit just about any wood.
