I've just found out a guy I know likes me. I get on great with him but I don't really fancy him. He has sent me a text but I havent answered. He split with his fiancee less than a year ago & (this is rumour only) i'm told he has a gambling problem. would it be a bad idea to meet him for a drink (eg)?

(fair point sophia, touché!)
I suppose the real question is, if i go out with him, am I just leading him on cos I'm at a loose end? Or is that his own look-out?

Come on! It's a drink! It doesn't have to turn into anything! Reason to go for a drink with him:
- It's one day till valentines day
- You shouldn't believe rumours
- you can help him get over the gambling preoblems if it's true and if you like him
- he obviously likes you
- give the poor guy a chance
- and you can just be friends if you want

Go with the porr guy, he's probably alone so go and comfort him and be a good person.

If you don't fancy, him then I don't understand what the problem is! If he likes you, why should that all of a sudden make a difference to the way you feel about him?

If you get on so well with him, and like him as a friend, just leave it at that. If he does tell you he likes you, let him down easy! As a friend, its down to him to let you know about his gambling problem (that's if he has one), but you don't fancy him, and want anything other than a platonic friendship with him, so his problem (if it exists), is not a huge deal! Therefore meeting up with him for drinks really shouldn't be that big a deal!

If you don't really "fancy" him then wheres it going to lead? Don't worry about rumours, they are just that, and if indeed he did have a problem, he may have sorted it, not fair to pre judge until you know all the facts! If you think there may be some sort of future in it then yer go out on a date and see where it goes, however since you say you don't fancy him sounds like you have already made your mind up it is going no where, so you may end up just leading him on?

To me the answer is obvious because , you don't really "fancy" him, and he has a gambling problem. Even if you are really desperate I would still say, "hell no! Don't go out with him!" because you'll end up really messed up from the whole thing in the end. And if you are not desperate then why would you even be asking the question in the first place???

You could go out with him just as friends and you should try to find out more about him. If he really has a gambling problem, then you shouldn't go deeper into this relationship. You could tell him that you like to be friends, and you don't want a relationship with him. But if you find out that he is ok and you like him, than you can go further. Anyway, the point is that you shouldn't rush and you should have a way out of this anytime.

He likes you and you get on well with him, there is abs no problem.. as for the gambling problem unless u are dating him in las Vegas, the problem doesn't even exist, and believe me rumors are called rumors because most of the time they are not true..

And if you think he likes you, i am sure he would be honest with you if you would ask him whether he has a problem as such, but as of now for a date you should have no problem regarding the same.

If you think he is a nice guy, there is no harm in a date, after a its a date nothing more....

If you're not really into him, I wouldn't. I've learned that the hard way. I've gone out with a few guys that I didn't like all that much but thought I'd give them a chance. It just ended with me having to awkwardly end things with them and hurt their feelings after giving them false hope. I'd rather be single then get in that situation. Dumping people is no fun. If you think you may change your feelings for him, get to know him better as a friend then decide. That way there's no pressure on you.

if you dont fancy him then dont go and gambling addiction is very serious.i was with someone who had a gambling problem for a year and it was not worth the stress.he was always in the betting shops and casino, was always broke and asking me for money.so it is not a good idea unless if you are willing to deal with his gambling problem
