The problem is that many dr's are reluctant to give this diagnosis. In fact many people with this collection of symptoms go years and thousands of dollars and numerous dr's to finally get the correct dx. There is no specific test that will definitively prove FM. Basically if you have a a certain number of symptoms you could have FM.
You need to see a FM specialist, chances are your regular dr will tell you you are stressed and need a vacation.
Do your homework, spend some time in the library...
What ever you do, don't stop moving, exercise is one of the keys to feeling better.
Everyone is different, so pay attention to what you eat, some foods or additives can trigger a flare up.
You need to go see a Dr. to find out what is causing you to have these symptoms

Sometimes drugs are used to treat FM.. But once you find out what triggers you to flare up, and avoid those things, you will probably feel better more often.
Good luck

Your best bet would be to see your General Practitioner and have him refer you to a Rheumatologist. Some of the meds my rheumy put me on to help were amitriptylline (a tri-cyclic antidepressant that helps with the pain) and flexeril (a muscle relaxer). Also, I have started taking vitamin supplements that help somewhat. I take Calcium Citrate (it absorbs better) and 4000 IU of Vitamin D per day as well as Magnesium, potassium, zinc, Complex B's and selenium. Always ask your Dr. before starting any pills, including vitamins. You may also, on top of the amitriptylline, need another antidepressant to complement the amitriptylline. Believe me, these antidepressants aren't because the Dr's think that fibromyalgia is in our head. I embraced them because they helped me to cope with the pain better as well as relieved it somewhat. My rheumy also suggested aqua therapy/heated pool therapy, very mild exercise. I haven't tried it yet as my insurance would not cover the cost, but I hope to soon. I don't know where you live, but there are is a Dr. in North Carolina by the name of Dr. Charles Lapp who is highly acclaimed in diagnosing and treating Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia, but he has a very long waiting list to get in. Dr's are much better informed about Fibromyalgia than they were when I first started exhibiting symptoms at the age of 16 (am 40 now), so you could get a referral through your local hospital. I wish you the best of luck.

The ones I've tried are:
1) a web site http://www.guaidoc.com. They use guaifenisin (spelling?) and make a change in what you eat and in the kind of perfumes and soaps you buy.
2)There is also a group http://www.helenfoundation.com/ They cost about $4,000, but they expect input from you on your pain every day while they figure out the dosage of low-grade hydrocortisol you need per day. They do this over a 6-month period. They also change what you eat. (They have a high rate of success.)

If you live in the Phoenix AZ metro area, there is a Dr. N. Soloman (rheumatologist) who understands it pretty well.

There is a Fibromyology support group in Tempe/Mesa AZ.

I hope this helps you. Tina

Have you considered Lyme disease? It begins with flu-like symptoms and then develops much the same as fibro so you often get fobbed of with a diagnosis of fibro, like I was. I am now nearing the end of treatment and vastly better. But you will need to find a doctor who specialises in LD, most know very little indeed, and what they do know is years out of date.
