I think sometimes it depends on the weather, the growth spurts the cat might be having, whether it's pregnant or not, things like that.
Talk to your vet.
I personally let my cats eat when they want as much as they want because they know if they are full or not. My cats are not obese so it works for them.

I like feeding mine a little of both kinds. I'll leave dry food out all day on the floor but my cats like it if I put some fresh down throughout the day. When i feed them wet food I give each cat (I have 2) half a can in the morning and the other half in the evening because one of my cats isn't brilliant, and he'll overeat or eat too fast if I give him the whole can at once. During the day, when i had one cat, I put the other half of the wet can in the fridge so it wouldn't dry out.
Also don't forget to give them water ;)

Leave dry food out for them all day, so they can eat when they want to. If you would like to give you cat wet food give it to them once a day and only enough for them to eat in one sitting, other wise the wet food will dry out and they will not eat it.
Hope this helps.

Hello, i have a new kitten, well he is 5 months now but we went to kitten kindy which was ran by a vet clinic, there they told me wet food was 80% water & a total waste of money, they put me on to a dry/moist food called Hills science diet.....it works out cheaper & i must say i notice the difference in his toilet stops too, not so stinky....
Best wishes

One small can of wet food--split it in half in the morning; half in the evening (it's only a table spoon or two), and dry food--a cup. Get a split feeding tray for wet/dry & one strictly for fresh water.

We give our cat 2 pouches in the morning and 2 pouches of cat food in the evening after work. He has dry food aswell but he only nibbles on that.

Can be both wet or dry, think once a day will suffice.
Just one standard can of cat food would be, (tuna can size).
FYI, cats need some nutrients, so if you notice your cat hair falling or something, feed it some feline supplements.
