The Bible doesn't say that. The "days" of creation did not begin until AFTER the creation of the heavens and the earth. Look at Gen. 1:2. The "days" of creation were large periods of time in which Jehovah prepared the earth for habitation. The planet could have been around for millions of years before the first "day" started.
Example: it takes me 6 days to furnish my house. But does that give any indication of how long it took to build the house? No. The house could have been in existence for years before I came on the scene to furnish it.
The same applies to the earth and how long it took to prepare it for habitation.

I've found that you can't extract passages from the Bible and always take them literally (at face value). For example, Adam and Eve were symbolic of God's creation of man kind. That doesn't mean that the Earth can't be 4.5 billion years old as the scientists say and that a lot of changes (evolution) hasn't occurred in that time. The result is just as the Bible says. God created the heavens and earth (the universe or universes) and here we are now to prove it!

I had a coworker once who was both a church pastor and a science teacher. I asked him how he reconciled the two concepts. He had some interesting thoughts on the matter. The Bible says 6 days, but how long was a day back then? I don't remember many of his specific examples but he sort of read the Bible the way Georbe Bush reads the Constitution. It's a giude and it's not always to be interpreted literally.

No offence but none of the time-scales in the bible make much sense to me
some people say one day in the Genesis creation account equates with 1000 or even 1 million years, and now that science has dated the Earth, now it's approx 1 billion years
but then further in the bible, people say they counted ages as lunar months, meaning 1 year was actually equal to 1 month
????

First let me say, Man or woman did not evolved, There is certain types of evolution, Like a egg will turn out to be a bird of somekind, & larva, turns out to be a Butterfly, & a tad-pole turns out to be a frog, & & maggots turns out to be a fly, Now concerning those 6 days, Firend you have to look at those 6 days as 6000 yrs. Gen.2:4 says this These are the GENERATIONS of the heavens & the Earth-------, Time goes all the way back to the beginning, beginning of what, Beginning of God's time table, There was at one time also a prehistoric time. It is all in the bible.

These are totally different theories. It is not possible that these theories will ever agree. The Scientific evidence of evolution can explain only the natural evolution of our physical body. However humans are made to have, not only bones and flesh but also spirit and soul. I guess that someone has given them to us. I bet that His name is not DNA.

Scientists aren't bound by myth. They are educated men who know how to spell "liar" and seek to explain the world around us using logic and fact.
