My tv is on pretty much all day but that doesn't mean my children sit & watch it all day, they'll watch a program they like then wander off & play or we'll go out & then they'll go back to it if they hear a theme tune they recognise. I also play with the kids, I don't just leave them to their own devices like some parents sadly do! Tv can be very educational but only really in small doses. My kids watch more tv than they probably should but then I watch it whilst they're in bed so who am I to say it's a bad thing? Contrary to popular belief tv is not evil, just combine it with interactive play from parents & all will be well, you won't end up with fat lazy children!

As if they stay in front of the telly anyway!
TV is a great educational tool, if children are watching the right programmes, and it does give you chance to catch up on work, cleaning the house or just sitting down for five minutes, but it needs to be monitored and restricted accordingly.
My toddler loves watching TV but he's bored again after half an hour. TV is a great way of breaking up the day for them and also letting them chill out. :)

Our tv has been on all day, I've cleaned hse & made our lunch & now i'm having a browse on here and whilst i'm doing it my 2 girls aged 3 & 5 are playing "big schools", they are wandering around the rooms downstairs (with me at the living room table) and they have their school bags & buggys and they seem to be having a wonderful time, lots of imaganitive play and i haven't had to stop a fight or prompt them with ideas for over 20mins !!
Fingers crossed it last's the day, and if they want to come in and watch what ever is on the tv (cbeebies at the moment) then they can do that to - freedom of choice, play with each other, watch tv or have a cuddle with mummy while she types (oh no here thay come now!!!)

No. My daughter is 14months and i will turn the TV on for her, but i still watch her and play with her while it is on. She watches Arthur, Magic School Bus, and Sesame Street. I always give her the option to do something else, so if she wants to play with her toys i play with her. But if she does decide to sit and watch the shows, i get up and clean. For the two hours the shows air if she does "watch" them it is only in short 10-15min. intervals, but it's just enough to get started on the cleaning lol.
And if you put your child in front of the TV all day he/she will just rebel and go pshyco destructive on you to get attention. My nephew is a GREAT kid....when he is being acknowledged. But when his mom says 'go watch TV I'm busy' he just goes and does something he knows is bad because when he's bad he gets attention. Kids are smart...they figure this stuff out on there own. So for all the ppl putting their kids in front of the TV you are just making it harder for the both of you.

Sometimes the idot boxs the best place if mommy or daddy need a little peace, but it is totally bad for their brains.. The flashing images constantly being shown actually stops brain developement, even on shows like sesame street. i am not a Barney fan by any means, but shows like this where the camera is just on one set at all times are alot better for the child because they don't constantly flash different images. The ballet and even iceskating are examples of shows that are not as bad for your child. My son and I went without television for aone whole year and we hardly missed it at all. You can sit your child down with various other projects that stimulate the brain so that you can achieve the same piece and quiet

No not at all there are much more fun things to do taking them out or playing, painting kids grow up so fast you should treasure the time you have with them not just plonk them in front of the tv all day, tv is fine in moderation though

NEVER, they grow up too fast. I have way too much fun with my children to have them bumming around in front of the TV (unless we rented movies for the night, then that's a family night). We play board games, go bike riding, play basketball - I'm actually dreading the day that they grow up & leave the house.

NO!!!
I raised three daughters. During those years we never had cable TV and even movies were limited. But we had lots of books and other activities.
In my opinion, if a person is unwilling to take the time and effort to properly raise kids they should keep their pants zipped and remain childless. When you have kids you have a huge obligation to raise them properly. Unfortunately, many parents don't bother to do that.

Let me ask then why did you give birth to your kid?
Yes, TV may be the way out if you're very busy and really don't have time to pay attention to your kids, but think about the things that only you can give them.
You should communicate with your kid in order to give him your experience, knowledge and love..!
