I don't think it was a planned out thing by one organization or group.
It developed over time. Kind of like the tonics and cure alls of yesterday have developed into todays pills for everything.
I don't see one organization being able to do something of this magnitude over such a long period of time and remain secret, perhaps secret societies have guided it, but I don't see them being in full control by any means.
How good can the pope really be? How can anyone fall for the sham? Look at the vatican and all the money and you can see it is no different than any other business only the item they have for sale is a fictional story of where you will end up when you die.
I'm not saying I don't believe in god. Far from it. I have no doubt in god above and in all of us. But as far as organized religion goes, I can't hold faith in a book rewritten dozens of times over 2000 years and entirely by the hand of man that *says* it is the word of god.
Didn't the bible say worship no man or graven symbol?
Yet Jesus is gods son on earth? A man?

Love god, live life, and treat others as you would be treated and give enough of yourself to make you and others around you happy. There really is not much more you can do as a spec of organic matter on a rock floating in a titanic void filled with small burning nuclear explosions.
Just be happy and stop worrying about what others say. Social gossip and rejection is about as close to satan that I think is possible.

Quite the contrary! Most secret and not so secret organizations are anti-God and profess that man (especially their organization) is the be all and end all of civilization. There is only one God and He will share His Glory with NO MAN!
