Imagine if the plane landed, and every single person in the plane hopped into a car and drove away spewing emissions. Which is worse for the environment: nearly 300 cars with questionable maintenance habits, or a single jet that is serviced religiously?

Why do you think taxes are the answer? First, it is penal in nature rather than a positive. Penal should only be used as a last resort when all other means fail. All it does is take more money out of the economy and puts it into wasteful government hands. Then, when the problem is actually resolved by industry the government has already dedicated those tax dollars and has to seek the money from other sources...Primarily you and me. In the end, using taxation guarantees you end up paying higher taxes with no real benefit.

They're already being taxed. That is, we the airline passengers have to pay a tax to travel by air.
As of today a second piece of luggage carried by British Airways will now cost an extra £120 - that's sixty quid each way. May as well pay someone to fly there and back with the bag for you on one of those cheap flights. Such as Madrid £40 single. Both ways you save £40.
I can see this happening.

yeah, i agree. we as a nation feel that we can fly anywhere cheap, and because of that we fly more, and therefore are pumping even more CO2 into the atmosphere. they should limit the amount of flights people can have; so the emissions are lowered.
