Davay, do you know the meaning of the word TRUTH???? Kudos, Smiles! Those of us that were born in Israels are Israelis. Period. Our parents came from all over the world, and MANY of us have always lived in Israel. Russians make up a very small part of that.

Now, where do the Palestinians come from?

Most of these answers were right, its as diverse as the U.S. but in a different way. But on the other hand if one were to really delve into this question you present, lord, would'nt the proof in an otherwise potential answer set some things straight. You would be a given an award at Camp David, or maybe hidden away somewhere, who knows. Where do they come from? ultimately? The land of milk and honey which they wandered to through the desert for forty years? defeating numerous armies along the way as the chosen people under the hand of God. Creating one of the most advanced civilizations for its time, in fact the first for any signs of major civilization, or is it the Palestinians who dwelt in this land by right, even before there was a palestine?

As far as I know, when Israel became a country again they decided to use the+ same language that is in The Old Testament. There are 2 pronunciations of the words. One is Sephardic and the other is Ashkinazi. They chose the Ashkinazi way to pronounce the words. They had to invent new words to name things that weren't around during the time the Old Testament (They would say the Tanach.) Actually it is an insult for a Christian to call the Scriptures that Jesus said were the word of God The Old Testament. Anyway, they had to invent words for modern things. The only 2 I remember is that the present day Hebrew for "car" is "mechonit" and the Hebrew word for "bus" is "autobus" with a long u.

One thing that people don't talk much about are the large numbers of Jews that were expelled form Arab countries in the 1950s to 1970s. Many (if not most ) of these people settled in Israel. Today most Israelis who live in Israel were born there but the one of the largest single "ethnic" groups are originally form Morocco

davay, that is not true. The jews that imagrated to israel did not do so because they did not "make it" in there own countries, it was because for thousands of years they were mistreated by the other religious groups in that country. Many jews escaped from germany, italy, poland, russia, etc and emigrated to israel during and after the holocoust, when millions of jews were killed for no reason, other than the hate of the german leaders of that time. A while after that, the arabic countrys made all the jews living in those areas leave, and they escaped to israel, in iraq there used to be thousands of jews, but now there are only literally about five. After the diaspora, thousands of years ago, the jews went to many countrys like spain, russia, poland, morocco, iraq, ethiopia, etc and now went to israel because they were being killed in their native country. Now most israelis just consider themselves to be "israelis". hope i helped! sorry its kindu long lol.

Most of the Israelis are born in Israel nowadays. If you ask about immigration, there are Jewish people from all over the world who have immigrated and still immigrate to Israel: From all European countries, countries from the Middle East, USA, Canada, South America, Africa... that´s one of the reasons, why actually Israel has such an exciting and interesting mixture of culture, know how, varieties of restaurants, handcrafts, etc.
Israel is a fantastic melting pot for Jewish people.
