Before you go with majority, perhaps you ought to read through the information in this link first. Is it a male dog you are talking about? If so, why do you want him neutered? Presumably, you are not going to let him wander around, so he's not going to be siring unwanted litters. A well trained unneutered dog is no harder to keep as a pet than a neutered one.

I'll chime in with everybody else and recommend the 6 month age range to start. However, we just adopted a 5 year old chihuahua that has not been spayed yet...what a joy that should be when we finally make her an appointment at the vet.

6 months male dogs and 3 months after first season for bitches.
(the word neuter covers both sexes)!
In the UK 6 months old is the youngest a vet will perform these ops!

any where from about 6 months to 2 years or any time after that is okay but it is a lot healthier for you to do it from the 6 to 2 period

I disagree with all of you saying 6 months. You can desex a dog from 8 weeks old and they recover faster, and have less chance of obesity as their metabolism does not rely on the high levels of hormones that a dog left undesexed for longer does.

The person who said a ***** should be spayed after her first heat is WRONG. There is no medical advantage to waiting for the first heat and there can be disadvantages such as increased risk of cancer and of course, pregnancy. Of course no one is going to let their intact puppy run around, but things do happen. Bitches should be spayed around 6 months just like males.
