Yes yogurt can be helpful for helping with the good bacteria if one is on antibiotics. One can also take acidophillous tablets for the same thing. I've done both with pretty good success.

Yes, it is a good advice and is given by doctors also. Alternatively (if you have lactose intolerance or calorie issues), you can also try tablets and capsules of good bacteria available in medical shops. Vibact and Sporlac are available in India. Similar preparations are available in other countries too.
The idea is to replace the good bacteria that get killed along with the bad bacteria when you take antibiotics. Most of the modern antibiotics are broad spectrum (read machine gun) and kill most of the bacteria, much of it beneficial.

Yes but dont rely too much on the doctor they generally only give opinions on what they call accepted medical medicines. There are little bottles of liquid yoghurt that are made to do this they are usually in the refrigerated section of the supermarkets.

Taking pro-biotic drinks can help your digestion and bowels and prevent vomiting so they do help when on antibiotics as they damage your immune system and make you more proone to diarrhoea.
