it is unusual to put a movement or expansion joint in tiling it would have to be a very big area to make it necessary. when tiling around a bath, sink or worktop a silicone sealant is used to stop water ingress and allow for movement. if it is around a bath then you must fill the bath approx half full before sealing and leave full until curing is complete (24 hrs min)

Tiles, like most maretials, will expand/contract as they get hotter/cooler, in relation to the surface on which they are placed. No joint, you run the risk of 'blowing' the tiles off the wall

expansion and contraction in different temperatures all so essential when laid on a wood surface
