Yes, it may affect your current software.
To be extra sure download the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor
at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/buyorupgrade/upgradeadvisor.mspx
and it will tell you what programs will or will not be compatible with Vista.

Yes, it will extremely affect your old software as not all software compatible with vista.

yes it would effect ur past softwares.....all softwares r not vista compatible........my friend is experiencing problem to install many softwares.

Yes, it can and most likely will. I would think very hard about that before doing it. Especially think of your antivirus and firewall software.
