I left home 12 years ago and don't see why I should have to keep taking part in this daft ritual. It was different when I was akid and relied on Mum and Dad for everything, but now I don't. they have birthdays and Christmas isn't that enough?

There is grandpa and nan days now. I agree about scrapping it because its so commercialised now people actually forget the real meaning of the days.

Why should it be a national day, it just makes people who have lost their parents feel bad. What if you had bad childhood experiences, you wouldnt want to thank your parents by celebrating this day.

Well regardless of how commercialised this day has become, I think it's a great day to show some love and appreciation towards them (but I think every day should be THE day to show them our appreciation). It doesn't have to cost money or anything. Just simple be creative and do something for them. To me, it's a very special time in my life because when I see friends without parents/ orphaned, I realised how lucky I am to have great parents. Many times, I took them for granted, I shouted at them and did things that disappointed them. Now that I'm married and living abroad, I realised how much I miss them and their love. Every day, I pray that they'll live long enough until I can save some money to go back and see them. I think many of us took life itself for granted.

You should always remember they were the people who brought you into this world and buying a card is such a small way of showing that you love, care and appreciate them then you don't deserve them

what ?!?!? you ungrateful person!!!! you still have to thank them for spending 18 YEARS OF THEIR LIFE bringing you up!!!! your mum should be thanked for giving birth for you etc.

it seems that your just being really tight. its not enough. my mum loves being given gifts and thoughtful cards and i feel its a way to show i appreciate her. i will never stop giving her gifts no matter how old i am

but i doubt they would want to be given anything if its just because you feel you have to. i wouldnt want a son like you if you are THAT self centred to think that parents dont matter after you move out

sorry for the hatefulness but its true

No but are you sure your parents no longer exist because you left home? It's just a day to remember or thank moms and dads not a conspiracy theory.

Before I had a family of my own, I believed that both Fathers Day and Mothers Day were pointless....but now I have a newborn baby and I have a new perspective on life and totally believe in Fathers Day and Mothers Day whole-heartedly! :)

Don't you think that spending £1.50 on a card for the people who bore and raised you is a small price to pay for all the love and care they showed you? Go on, show them you care.

No. I really appreciate my mother & like to show that. Also, now that I'm a mum myself, I love the fuss my kids give me.

Is it really such a hassle to post a card that is going to make someone happy ?. They raised you so the least you can do is send a card.
