Each morning when I wake up my mouth feels incredibly dry and dehydrated. It tastes pretty rank and my breath probably stinks too (I don't know because I'm single, perhaps this is why!)
Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

maybe you're sleepign with your mouth open? if that's the case maybe its because your nasal passage isnt clear enough, you can try those breathe right strips if you think this is the reason.

it might also be because you simply are mildly dehydrated. this happens more than you think with our salt-rich foods which makes us more thirsty than we realize. try drinking an extra glass or 2 of water sometime in the day, it might help.

it might also just be natural....depending on how bad it really is. mild dryness is common because we're not producing any saliva. we're not producing saliva because our mouth's aren't being stimulated and therefore dont need any of it. in most cases we still produce some saliva but sometimes we produce too little (ie: if we're dehydrated).
halitosis (bad breath) occurs due to bacterial buildup in your mouth. one of the key causes of this is dry mouth because our saliva actually fights and kills these smelling bacteria. just brush your teeth and eat breakfast, it'll help. chew gum during the day too or try foods with vegetables as they're good at helping physically clean the mouth

Of course, you might be sleeping with your mouth open, but often it means you ate or drank something with sugar in it before you went to bed, assuming there is nothing medically wrong with you or you are not on any medications. Sugar dehydrates you. Do not eat any sweets after dinner time and your mouth will feel much better in the morning.

Try this at least once before you choose the best answer. :-)
