Have you ever had religious experiences that your thought were really experiences with God or other supernatural beings, and then after you became an atheist or agnostic you discounted those experiences? If so, what were they? What made you believe they were real at the time? What made you doubt them later on?

I never "became" an atheist, I always was one. "Religious experiences" are a matter of definition. For an atheist, no experience can be religious in the first place, except maybe if he or she is not in possession of his or her full mind.

I've had... experience with what were probably ghosts, but I don't discount them on account of my atheism. Just because I don't believe in gods doesn't mean I don't believe in anything supernatural.

To be far though, ghosts are witnessed significantly more often than gods, in multiple cultures by people of varying beliefs.

not at all - i know many people that claim to have had some "experience" but its always something really dumb - its sad really that they believe this.

I love the George Carlin joke about angels - so many people believe in angels, but nobody believes in goblins or zombies!

How many people believe they have been attacked by a demon? Nobody will say that, they only claim to have seen god, jesus or an angel. If they believe in heaven AND hell, then why no demon sightings?

I once had some emotional difficulties and felt being embraced by an invisible force. Later I just realized it was a result of emotional stress.
