If you wear glasses or contacts and are considering discussing laser eye surgery with your ophthalmologist, your eye exams need to be current. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology Web site, www.aao.org, if you have no vision problems diagnosed by clinical ophthalmology and you don't wear glasses, you should stick to a regular eye exam schedule.

I was told by my optician at least once every two years, even if your eyes are healthy. My boyfriend hadn't had his checked in 6 years and she was shocked, but because he sees fine, he thought he didn't need to get them checked. But, eye exams can detect things that you didn't know you had, for example, I recently found out I have an astigmatism which needs correcting. It is important, but it is also very easy to neglect your eyes.
