What happens when a person has been sentenced to a few days in jail, but was released from courtroom to attend some important buseiness? Is there any possibility that he doesnt have to go to jail?

No, they should have given you some court papers and had you sign your name some where acknowledging your sentencing. You should have a date that you must surrender by, failing to do so will result in a warrant for your immediate arrest.
I wouldn't let this slide, it's only a few days, go and get it over with and get on with your life.

No. IF a person has been granted time to resolve his personal affairs before reporting to jail to serve his sentence,he is either released on his own recognizance (on his promise to report for all court dates and sentencing, and beginning his sentence)l, or on a continuation of his bail. He MUST report by the date set. If he fails to report, a warrant will be issued for his arrest , and when he is found, he can also be charged with an ADDITIONAL crime

Think about that. If that was a way to avoid jail then everyone would come up with "Important Business" to avoid going to jail.

In criminal cases, you are carted off to serve your sentence right away. In civil cases, depending on the crime, you may be given time to get your affairs in order before reporting to jail.
