I know nothing about birds. The blood appears to be in a tube on the wing. There are some bite marks but that seems the be the only main injury. The bird also has trouble putting its wing down.

Does anyone know if it can get worse, or will it heal on its own.
(I have already told the owner so all parties are aware of what is going on)

You really ought to get the bird to a vet to be treated with antibiotics. It can get worse, and it sounds like a serious bite for a bird.

Some Rats have strong predatory instincts and in the future, if they are not kept separated, the rat could actually kill the bird if the bird is the size of a parakeet or smaller.

if there is any more bleeding grab a pich of white flour or cornstarch and presss into the wound to stop it. Birds have very little blood and naturally they do not show signs of weakness untill they are pretty much dead (so predators are not alerted of their weakness) if the bird looks unsteady at all call a 24 hour vet (if it is night)

not being able to put the wing down is probably because of the pain. any other reduced mobility it is vet time.

if any infection appears it is also vet time.

The rat bit into a blood feather. You should bring the bird to a vet to get it to stop bleeding and to make sure its not infected.

It sounds like it could be a blood feather, if you cant get the bleeding to stop, it will have to be pulled. It would be best if your vet did this, but if you cant get to one right now heres how:
