People sure do give misleading answers. A cult and a religion are two separate things! By definition a religion is a set of rites and practices coupled with the worship of God(s) or a Higher Being. A cult has more emphasis on revering a person and or their beliefs, be they religious/spiritual or not. For example, Christianity is a religion it has set practices, ministers etc. however, there are cults within the religion e.g. The Children of God. Cults aren't always associated with religions and are often constructed by power-hungry people seeking the vulnerable to join in their plight. A religion is not a cult because religion is about revering Higher Beings like Gods whereas cults are about worshiping people, often with far out views.

A cult is a church or religion where they do not allow other congregations to be formed, as they could split off completely from the main church. Instead, they just create bigger buildings, to hold more people, instead of teaching all them to be preacher and teachers, so that they can lead their own congregations. In that manner, the individual does not get last in the crowd, and when a disaster takes place, like Katrina, they left behind, because there isn't a way to account for all the members.

In some ways, the Presbyterians are taking on this role, as some of their churches are refusing to follow the new rules regarding gays set down by the governing board. As such, they are threatening to foreclose on the rebellious congregations.

A spiritual movement led usually by a single person who is supposed to be some intermediary for god. Often, the members are told materialism is not the way, give it all to their leader. and this is when cults show their real face; if the leader profits from his students it's a scam.
Hear that Rev. Moon? nice Rolls Royce.

If seem at logically, i'd say confident. i think of the only difference (apart from the unfavorable connotation), is that the well-known-day term faith has a tendency to describe an more desirable, greater familiar faith. Christianity, while it first began, replace into between the so referred to as secret Cults in around the 1st century advert. steadily it grew and flourished, ultimately displacing the different cults interior the region.

Anyone who calls God "Jehovah". Adam and Eve, Noah's big boat with TWO of every animal on earth! No Christmas, birthdays, any-days for that matter. No Heaven (save 144,000),no Hell. Follow the TRUTH huh? -YOU GOTTA BE KIDDIN ME!!! Try putting your faith in God and not man (who wrote all that nonsense). And dont give me this "God would never let man change the Bible" bull. If that was the case he wouldn't let a RELIGIOUS group take a family member, brainwash them and isolate them from their real family because they can't be saved. Sounds like a cult to me.

I would agree with Mypreshus...those who follow a man.

A group that obeys Bible scripture and does not put any ' leaders' on a worship pedestal, cannot be called a cult.
