how come if I take a nap in the day I can sleep on time but if I take a nap really later its impossible for me to? I would think sleep is sleep no matter what time but I guess not

Difficult to answer categorically, but a nap provides a restorative effect far greater than you should expect from the length of the nap.The problem with longer naps is that you move into the deeper phases of sleep and recovery to fully awake can take some time, not recommended if you are taking a nap between driving spells!

The problem with your late naps is that it has given your body quite a sleep boost and it will take a while for you to get back into bed-time mode again.

Take a nap early instead of being awake whole night by taking one late.Fix a time for it daily.

Wish sleep was sleep but like you said, guess not.

This is why people who have strange working hours can never be on everyone else's scheduals...nor ever ketch up on sleep.
