Yes it happens in Pakistan. The issue is not whether it is allowed or not in Islam, the problem is it is being practiced in the name of Islam and the religious people are giving a silent approval to it. It is again secular NGO's and the Government fighting against this menance.

assalam o alikum
well me too live in pakistan alhomdillah.
and marriage with Quran, i heard, but it only practice in very few rural areas, and only very very rigid ppl do this
they do this to protect their properties, so that the property do not transfer to other family, so for this they do these kind of things.
well, just labeling someone as muslim is not enough. or just by living in a country which islamic, doesnt depict that every one is on the same wavelength.
if u have to analyse that a person is true muslim, then first of all he/she has some knowledge about islam + he/ she practice it as well. otherwise just for the sake of saying MUSLIM is not enough.
well, for ur more info, this practice has been addressed and many ppl has been educated in this and now a days the women of pakistan r bold enough to say what is right or not, + they r now coming to education, so THE SITUATION GETTING CHANGE/ BETTER.
and by the way, good and evil practices r going on in every part of the world. its not only just pakistan!!!

I am a financial analyst from Pakistan... married to an economist and been born and raised here.
We have never known anyone doing anything of the sort.
And if there is someone doing it, they are too stupid to marry a book.
Stop generalizing and lying and spreading hatred.

This is an un-Islamic custom followed by families in rural areas who wish to not bequeath their properties to their daughters.
This is NOT Islamic; nowhere in the Quran and Sahih Hadith mentions this absurd practice.
