Imagine 5 billion people having the same last names. It wouldn't help a lot.

Do you know any AdamSONS ? Names are derivatives of people usually, taken from the father's trade (at first), i.e.: if your dad was a carpenter - last name would be carpenter; if your dad was a fisherman - last name would be fisher, etc, etc. Names identify who people are ! When the names became too common or familiar, middle names were added. Just think of everyone - all 6 Billion of us on the earth named either, Adam (for males) and Eve (for females) mass confusion or what?

Um, it's a patriarchal religion, shouldn't there just be one last name? Adam Missnaribinside, maybe.
