No one really knows their purpose but I believe I am here to be here as a support for others. I am a pretty good listener and I have a pyschic ability (not strong but enough to see things inside some people) and so I listen and try to guide them. When I say Im here for others I dont mean everyone but a few select people that I let in. It doesnt sound like much but I think it means something to them. Some of us are born for greatness and others of us deal with one person at a time. Personally I think helping just one person means more than governing an entire nation.

Yesterday I expected this question from you. Birth is not for dying, but for action. Have you ever watched the ants that stores the food and going in one line from one place to another? Have you ever watched the streets from tall tower-top. If not, do. Every lively being - all are lively only - is created by God for his own fun making and if you can escape from the bondage of life - first is the hungry and a lot in the sequence - you can see him. Nor for dying, but He seeks how many are his sincere children and how many are not.

The Earth is the best school to enhance our soul energy and be enlightened. This is based on our free will and since earth is the only place that evil exists we need to pass the exams in order to graduate and move to the spiritual word. We are not complete beings but we can evolve to be so. Death is a natural process that allows our spirit and soul to graduate.

PLEASE READ ALL!!!!!!!!!!!
Those who believe in the Creator can answer the questions: where from? And where to? They know that they have come into existence by being created by the Creator and they also know that there is an eternal life after death. But what about the answer to the third question, that is: why have we been created? If we had been created by the Creator, shouldn’t we expect that He would tell us the purpose of our creation? Shouldn’t He tell us on what basis He is going to judge us on the Day of Judgment?

HERE IS TEXT FROM THE HOLY QURAN

I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me.

IF THERE WAS NO GOD HOW WERE WE CREATED
WE SHOULD PRAISE ONLY PRAISE ALLAH AND HIS PROPHETS

Every man is born for achieving something. And there would be some reason for every man to be born on Earth. And if that cause is fulfilled, then that man will die. And according to me, every man should recieve helping to others as a common cause and fulfill it without fail.

"AS SURE AS DEATH"
In one sense one is born to die as you said.
But, the reason behind birth and death is to learn the lesson that the material world is temporary and miserable as told by Lord Sri Krishna in the Bhagavad-gita(8.15) thus, "After attaining Me, the great souls, who are yogés in devotion, never return to this temporary world, which is full of miseries, because they have attained the highest perfection".

Just like one goes to school not to stay there permanently or one goes to the hospital not to stay there for over. From the school we learn and go out and from the hospital we get cured and go out. Similarly in this temporary miserable world of repeated birth and death (Mrityu samsara) we learn the lesson and go back to our original home, back to God's abode in the spiritual world

The purpose of life is not MATERIAL HAPPINESS which is transitory, flickering and temporary but it is the eternal SPIRITUAL HAPPINESS obtained with love of Godhead.

A somewhat similar question was put forward by Mike Robinson of London Broadcasting Company in 1976 while interviewing Prabhupada(Founder of ISKCON. Some excerpts from that :

Mike Robinson: Can you tell me what you believe to be the meaning of life? Why do we exist in the first place?

Srila Prabhupada: The meaning of life is to enjoy. But now you are on a false platform of life, and therefore you are suffering instead of enjoying. Everywhere we see the struggle for existence. Everyone is struggling, but what is their enjoyment in the end? They are simply suffering and dying. Therefore, although life means enjoyment, at the present moment your life is not enjoyment. But if you come to the real, spiritual platform of life, then you'll enjoy.

Mike Robinson: Can you explain to me, finally, some of the stages you go through in spiritual life? What are the spiritual stages a new devotee of Krishna goes through?

Sr la Prabhupada: The first stage is that you are inquisitive. "So," you say, "what is this Krishna consciousness movement? Let me study it." This is called sraddha, or faith. This is the beginning. Then, if you are serious, you mix with those who are cultivating this knowledge. You try to understand how they are feeling. Then you'll feel, "Why not become one of them?" And when you become one of them, then all your misgivings soon go away. You become more faithful, and then you get a real taste for Krishna consciousness. Why aren't these boys going to see the cinema? Why don't they eat meat or go to the nightclub? Because their taste has changed. They hate all these things now. In this way, you make progress. First faith, then association with devotees, then removal of all misgivings, then firm faith, then taste, then God realization, and then love of God, the perfection. That is first-class religion. Not some ritualistic ceremony of "I believe, you believe." That is not religion. That is cheating. Real religion means to develop your love for God. That is the perfection of religion.

Mike Robinson: Thank you very much for talking with me. It's been a pleasure talking to you.

Srila Prabhupada: Hare Krishna.
