Did you mean "depression?" You can't really die of depression. I don't think anyone has ever died from that. Depression takes you into a state of mind where you are more inclined to commit suicide, do drugs and overdose, and it causes a lot of stress which can contribute to heart problems, high blood pressures, heart attacks and strokes. But at her age, it would be rare for the latter to have been the case. And if it had been a heart attack or stroke, the autopsy would've shown that immediately.
Just my opinion, I think it was a combination of factors...obviously she was depressed and she did have a history of drinking and using drugs. As of yet, they say they didn't find any illigal drugs in her hotel room, but that they found prescription bottles in her bathroom. No one said what those prescriptions were for. They could have been for sleeping pills, painkillers, tranquilizers and anti-depressants...it would be "normal" for her to have access to those considering she had gone through childbrith, trauma, probably had anxiety, insomnia, etc..THose prescriptions are all legitimiate and wouldn't raise a red flag since her doctor gave them to her....but if she were to have taken all of them, or combined them with lot of alcohol (which she did having a drinking problem), then it becomes pretty obvious what happened. And remember that she was on all those diet pills too. No one will know what the cause of death was until they do more studies, but to answer your question, she couldn't have died from depression alone. I don't think anyone has ever died of that (Believe me, if you could die of depression, I'd have been gone a long time ago!!!!) But depression prevents you from making clear/healthy choices. And that may be what happened to her. So you could say that the depression INDIRECTLY caused her death through her actions, but not directly. Make sense? Soon enough, we'll all know though. I'm really curious too. Either way, depression did play a role. She was depressed over her son's death, she probably went through post-partum depression after her daughter's birth (it's actually called "double depression' in medical terminology), so the depression (s) definitely played a factor. But not in and of it self. And let's not forget that her own mother, who probably knows her better than anyone else, came forward right after Smith's death and spoke very candidly about her daughter's drug and alcohol use/abuse in the past and said point blank that she knows her daughter's death was drug-related. And as for poor Daniel, Smith's son who died just five months ealier, he too died of a drug overdose. I hate to end on a cheesy cliche, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Maybe Anna Nicole was so grief-stricken over Daniel that she wanted to join him in a similar manner.

it would have been a combination of factors as depression alone does not kill persons so young. many, many years of yo-yo dieting and 2+ decades of drug abuse, etc. I've seen many people in much better shape die younger than she was.

I wouldn't doubt if she died from a broken heart. If that were one of my children I wouldn't have lasted as long as she did. I feel so badly for her and her daughter.
Oh, and her dead husbands son died last year.
