In relation to Garnishments, what is a 'Nisi' order?

Nisi generally indicates a Court order that is not immediately enforceable but will become enforceable after a particular time has passed unless someone takes action to set the order aside. It gives everyone a bit of breathing space. With garnishment many people are embarrassed at third parties being dragged into the dispute, so it gives a debtor a last chance to make arrangements to pay.
