I watch some of it, some I don't agree with but was wondering, who is actually behind the programming & research & why so much religious time?

Well, I don't know who's behind it all, but 95% of all the people in the world believe in an intelligent creator. That might have something to do with it. Good old-fashioned marketing. People are very intrigued by the stories and histories behind religions. I don't get into the shows, but I'm fascinated by God's infinite attempts at reaching us.

Probably because people want to know an impartial source.... even though Discovery Channel and History channel aren't completely impartial. I like it because although I don't always believe with what they say, I think they give a fair amount from both sides... atheists, Christians, and other religions. It is nice to see something that isn't 100% biased, although depending on the specific program, in can lean a certain way. But overall I think they do a decent job, and because of that, there is a decent demand for them to show programs like that.

You seem to be implying a hidden agenda. Discovery Channel and the History Channel are business. If there is a market, they want to sell to it. There's obviously an increased interest in some religious themes. It's not just religion. When there's a major earthquake, there's lots of earthquake shows; when there's a plane crash, there's plane crash shows; when the tsunami hit indonesia, there were tsunami shows.
Given the Da Vinci Code's recent success, Islamic terrorists, Christian conservatives winning the election for Bush, lawsuits about having God in the Pledge of Allegiance, religion has been on people's minds and they want to cash in on that. There's nothing sinister going on

The viewers who are realizing that something's wrong with our God concept are requesting it. The continuous religion/sectarian violence that the religions pretend doesn't happen is making people wonder if they themselves must do something to bring it to an end as the faiths refuse to get involved with religion violence.

I seen and watched some of the stuff they have put on there, but half the stuff they do put on there is ridiculous. I don't know where they come up with most of it. I really don't think they do any research on alot of that stuff.

they don't put the usual disclaimer that stations do saying they do not necessarily endorse...

so therefore it must be the work of time life or whoever owns those stations. i have tried to watch some of their shows, but have not found one of them which agrees with my studies.

they might quote a few scriptures out of context but in my opinion they have been led astray.
