Kissing, dancing, and alcohol/drugs are only contributing factors that may lead to an intimate encounter as physical contact and artificial diminished capacity may increase the desire to get the heart and hormones pumping.
However, there is no "one thing" as it always depends on the chemistry, attraction, the "X" factor as to whether or not two people will end up in an intimate situation. It also depends on the parties involved and their cultural background and moress.
You can be drinking, slow dancing and even kissing a person but if there is no real attraction it does not mean it will lead to an intimate encounter. On the other hand, there are people who have such low moral standards that they will "do" another person on a whim with no seeming rhyme or reason or see sex as a game or sport and the encounter is just another "win" (but that does not mean they will actually enjoy the encounter).

Attraction and Passion ... but in today's world, a couple of alcoholic drinks usually does the trick!!! (not for me though!) Bite Me!

lack of discipline.... if you feel like doing it but if you are in control of your emotions and hormones, then it will lead there.
