If everyone emulated Christ (not just pretending), then could religion be as bad as people make it out to be?

Before Christianity people managed to mobilize groups to hate and attack other groups. Christianity and other similar religions could be use for the opposite. I dont recall orphanages, alms giving, etc. a central part of Greco-Roman life from my classics courses.

If all religions were to focus on following Christ, we would all be a lot better off! Some are too legalistic like the clergy of Jesus' time. Some are not focused on the gospel of Christ at all!. The Bible is open to private interpretation and we won't know for sure about some things until Christ comes and tells us what is right and what is wrong. However, the Bible is clear enough about the major things that Jesus taught so that we should all be focusing on walking in his footsteps and following him the best we can! If we follow the greatest commandment to love God with all our heart and love our fellow man, Jesus said this was fulfillment of the Law. Many are sincere in their worship and do worship the Lord with all of their hearts. Many do not. The Bible says that all will stand before the judgment seat of the Lord and all will have to give and account for their actions.

You are on the right track. If everyone truly followed Christ's example, there would be no more wars, no more hunger, and - best of all - no more incessant arguing. The problem is that misguided people try to use religion as a political tool for personal gain. Some let their pride get in the way and reject religion completely.
We each need to follow God without looking over our shoulder to see if everyone else is doing the same.

religion separates because its something that people will die defending. don't think that non-Christan religions are evil because they too teach love and kindness. there are extremists in all religions including Christianity.getting someone to give up what they believe and have them believe what you believe will take more than anger and hate. telling you that your a dirty mindless Christ follower wont convince you to believe in some other religion it will just anger you. dont try to do the same thing with other beliefs.

It is not only about following Christ, all religions have most positive features and if these are conscientiously followed then everyone would be better off ! It is those "sickies" in any religion, who interpret it according to their baser instincts, rather than upliftingly, that create dissension and strife !

Hmmmm... when the rest of us actually see christians begin to emulate christ perhaps others will follow suit. Unfortunately it seems far easier to use his name to garner money and generally abuse others than it does to emulate his peaceful loving actions. Therefore christians will emulate christ when pigs fly.

dude, jesus was an ancient hippie.
the world would be a great place if we were all "like" jesus, i think he is a good role model, and im an atheist. so there you go. i dont agree with everything jesus stood for, like a belief in a supernatural being. but his ideals of love and peace are truly inspirational whether he is real or fictional.

If people emulated the Christ there would be no need for religion. Jesus did not teach a religion, he taught truth and the way back to our home in the kingdom of heaven. His mesage has been grossly misunderstood.

In a perfect world, yes. Unfortunately this isn't a perfect world, we're all just human, and for some crazy reason we have this need for excuses to hate.
