if the child is comfortable sitting on someones lap, if the family trusts them, then let them sit. other then that, after around 6 or 7 might be a little to old to be sitting on an older mans lap.

But if its daddys, uncles or grandpas lap, its ok.

as for being carried around, once they can walk, don't carry them around as mich. If your out in public, of course, carry them if they're tired, but let them walk around as much as you can.

my child is going to be 4 friday and i still carry her i think it is all in how big they are or heavy, and i am 26 and i will still sit in my mothers, fathers, mother-in-laws lap. i was brought up in a very loving family very huggy and i love to sit in my moms lap and have her just hug me. she so short and little too so she is a very huggible person. i guess you could say i am still a momma girl and been married for 7yrs

I probably sat on random people's laps until the age of 4 or 5 and my grandparents, aunts and uncles until the age of 6 or 7. After that you get too big, too independent and it just isn't cute anymore.
