A small hand bell, the sanctus bell, rung during mass, prepares the congregation for Holy Communion. Sanctus bells derive their name from being rung first during the Sanctus [Holy, Holy, Holy Lord...]. They have been rung as part of the celebration of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass in the Church for more than 800 years. Most Sanctus bells used today are small hand-held bells or assemblies of three to five bells that are rung during the Mass A little before the consecration, when appropriate, a server rings a bell as a signal to the faithful. According to local custom, the server also rings the bell as the priest shows the host and then the chalice. The reason for ringing bells is, first, to create a joyful noise to the Lord; second, the Church bells ringing signaled those not able to attend Mass that something supernatural was taking place.

Hindus may engage in some type of formal worship either at home or at a temple. At home, Hindus often create a shrine with icons dedicated to the individual's chosen form(s) of God. Veneration may involve offering food, water, or flowers and may be expressed through the burning of incense, lighting of candles or oil-lamps, ringing a bell, waving a fan, or sounding a conch-shell. Other practices of Puja include meditation, the chanting of mantras, and the recitation of scriptures. So these practices like ringing bell are involved in pooja for respect to God and telling him that we are there to pray him and asking him to listen our pray.

The sound of a bell embodies all music. If a devotee lacks instruments and kirtana he should simply ring a bell, for that sound in itself is dear to the Lord. Thus one should worship the puja bell before worshiping the Lord, as an item of His paraphernalia that is very dear to Him. Many functions of worship require that one ring a bell with a handle. The sastra states that one who, while worshiping the Lord, rings a bell with a symbol of Garuda or the Lord's cakra on it attains liberation from birth and death. This is from the book "Pancaratra-Pradipa",
Inhe ghanta(bell), Shanka(conch) are all necessary paraphernalia in the worship or the Lord while doing puja, arati, naivedya etc...
are there in order to draw the attention of the Lord. Following
Very brief information regarding Ghanta, shanka etc...
Anantadeva or Sesa serves Vishnu by assuming the form of His umbrella, slippers, couch, pillows, garments, residence, sacred thread, throne and so on. Sesa is called Ananta, or unlimited, because He assists the Personality of Godhead in His unlimited expansions by performing an unlimited variety of services. He takes many forms for the service of Vishnu and thus He serves the Lord.
According to Padma Purana, Lord Ramacandra is an incarnation of Narayana and that the other three brothers are incarnations of Laksmana, Bharata and Satrughna or Sesa, Cakra and Sankha respectively. As well known to everyone, Laksmana who is incarnation of Sesa served Lord Ramacandra, incarnation of Narayana.
The twelve alvars in South India who are incarntions of shanka, ghanta, cakra etc... appeared in order to serve the Lord in various ways of worship.
