So when you choke to death and blame the peanut butter company, they can say they told you so. It all goes back to the hot coffee thing.

Like on a gas can it says Caution Flammable!
It is not the lawyers fault, it is nit the companies fault, it is societies fault for the more, more, more, that we were taught as children.
Of course the gasoline is flammable, that is why we drilled it, refined it, transported it and taxed it at every step.
Of course some Peanut Goo contains Peanuts of some variety.
The litigants want to sue for their own ignorance. Labeling and Branding have gone almost far enough, after all the Legal Disclaimers one cannot play the Cap'n Crunch Pirates of the Caribbean game on the back.

Most companies that make peanut butter also produce ofther nuts, such as almonds and brazill buts and so on so they use those same machine to shell the peanuts. So in turn they have little bits of those other nuts. If you go to fast food places or even a deli some of them have signs saying prepared near or on surfaces containing nuts.

That's so when some moron tries to sue the company because they have peanut allergies, but ate peanut butter anyway and had a reaction, the company can say they were warned. Remember, we live in the land where millions were awared to some mouthbreather spilled hot coffee in her own lap.

No. It's just that some people don't understand that many food products contain different kinds of nuts even if the label doesn't indicate that. For instance I can eat crunchy peanut butter but not pistachio, which is in many specialty chocolate candies. Naw, I wouldn’t say stupid, just not aware.

It's another act of courtesy to ensure the consumers are fully informed with what they are about to try or experience rather than treating it like an 'element of surprise' factor. There is a saying that goes 'better be safe than sorry'.

Did you ever see the episode of the Jessica Simpson show that had her confused that Chicken of the sea was Tuna?
I know a computer programmer that was caught by a roommate making chicken salad with it and he is very allergic to fish.
So yes people are stupid.

Case of CYA. So many people have "Nut Allergies" that the companies are not taking any chances.
