Might you have a ganglion cyst? I have one in my wrist and it hurts from time to time...sometimes it hurts a lot. Ganglion cysts are basically pockets of fluid from a joint. The hands are a common place for them. Mine is on the top of my wrist and looks like a small marble is under my skin when I bend my hand the right way. It's kind of soft, tho and sort of moves a little. The cysts are harmless, except that they hurt. I had surgery to have mine removed about 4 years ago but it grew back within a year. There's a chance they will grow back if all the tissue and fluid isn't taken out - I guess they missed some with me. Now I just live with it. I'm not going to bother with surgery again if it can come back...I wasn't able to use my hand for 6 weeks and it totally wasn't worth it. As an alternative, you can have the cyst drained instead of surgically removed, but that sometimes only lasts a few days. Some people say to hit the cyst with a big book (like a Bible) or whack your hand against something hard to break the cyst up, but that's just a good way to break a bone instead. Hope this helps.

It sounds as if you have a cyst. In itself, it's just a bubble of liquid and not a major problem unless it is in an area where it will be irritated or will press against nerves and cause pain. Pretty much the conditions you have in the hand and wrist. When the doctor was talking surgery, he wasn't likely talking the whole anesthesia, you asleep and out of it kind. More than likely he meant a local surgery, done with a local anesthetic, so you won't feel anything in your wrist and hand. Most cysts can be removed in less than 30 minutes, and will take a morning or afternoon out of your day. You get a few stitches to close up the incision, you leave your little bubble behind, and the pain is all gone in a day or so. Afterwards, you use your wrist and hand without pain and no more worries. Really, it may just be a small bubble, but currently it is causing you big discomfort. So why fear the surgery? Because that is what this is really about, fear. The cure for your problem is to schedule a minor surgery and have it removed. Then it's gone, and will likely stay gone. And afterwards, you will wonder what the big deal was, and why you put it off.

Is it a ganglion cyst? My daughter had one of those when she was 18. It was surgically removed. The recovery took weeks. It came back and I took her to an acupuncturist. She really didn't like the needles, but took the Chinese medicine for about four months. It did seem to help. According to Chinese medicine the cyst is from a water/moisture problem in the body.
My daughter's cyst was above the bone but under the tendons, which made the surgery kind of tricky. Since she is a musician, it was very worrisome. I hope you find what will help it for you.

I had the same thing but it was on the top of my foot. I was told that it was caused by an injury. It was suppose to be common in joggers, but I got mine when I was pregnant and on my feet alot at work. I finally had to have surgery because it started to grow into my tendons and it hurt to wear shoes. I would ask if they can do a cortisone injection into it.

This condition is called hygroma. Needs surgery in most of the cases, sometimes it gets internally absorbed or someone with medical expertise can actually pressurize it to rupture it. Though now inspiration of the fluid is done.
