My son has been throwing up since Saturday but today a dry cough and fever started. He went out with his dad on Saturday and my hubby will let him eat just about anything!

Technically the flu, the real influenza virus, doesn't cause vomiting. It causes a fever, general body aches, fatigue and headaches. Food poisoning will usually happen within hours of eating the tainted food, and is most often accompanied by diarrhea, since the body is trying to remove all of it from the system. If it were food poisoning from something he ate on Saturday, by now he should be feeling better and not worsening. It sounds as if he has picked up some sort of buggy, possibly a cold, and he may have eaten something that just didn't agree with him. If he isn't holding fluid, specifically water, and the fever is not coming down with Tylenol, or if he has diarrhea along with all this, then you really should take him to a pediatrician for a good exam and diagnosis. Children are tough to diagnose and treat sometimes, unless you can do a hands on checkup. Trust your gut, and decide from there.
