Your Vet is correct to wait until the cycle is finished before spaying her.The heat can last about two weeks;during that time the flow of blood will subside and become more clear & less red & eventually stop! Please remember to keep your female away (I mean locked up) from any male dogs during the end of her heat cycle! This is when she is most likely to be acceptable to mating & the boys know it!! The doggie diaper is a good idea & also, like JP said, find a crate or a excercise pen large enough for her to lie down & be comfy at night. Keep some old ,easily washable towels or bedding down for her & just monitor her whereabouts...don't let her wander about the house.Once she is spayed, you can rest easy & so can she.

first of all if you are that concered about her bleeding then you should take her to your vet imedatly or the nearst emergency vet hos. now for the rest of the answer. some dogs just have long menstruation cycles just like people. also with the pad and you are still getting blood every how often are you changing the pad you should change it atleast every 2 hours or like you would a babys diaper. also check to make sure shes not rubbing or scooting all over the place cuase this can cuase the problem there too. honestly if you wanted her to be spayed you should have had this done befor her first cylce ever hit. the reasson why the vet will not do this procedure on her untill shes done is becuase it can cuase complications and also it makes it harder to see what they are doing. but if you are that concerned you need to take her in asap. i hope this has helped

Dog sounds pretty normal to me, they won't usually spay a female durring a heat cycle because the loss of blood and possiblity of hemoraging is much greater. Be glad you have a sensible vet. If it doesn't taper off in the next week take her back in for a check, but 7 days is just an average and few dogs read the book that is wrote in. :)

The entire heat cycle lasts approximately a total of three weeks. However, the duration varies from dog to dog and this is only an average. If she's been continually bleeding for more than 10 days & the blood hasn't become lighter in color & flow I would advise you to have your veterinarian examine her ASAP to be sure this isn't a result of a more serious problem, such as uterine or ovarian tumors or even cancer.

My last GSD was a girl and she had her first season at 8 months. It lasted about two weeks from first show to last, however, it did subside considerably by day 10. I understand the mess! Every time she wagged her tail, we had marks over walls and doors!! Have you called your vet and asked again? If you have lost a bit of faith in your vet, you could always get a second opinion or speak to the breeder you got her from for help.
For the record - My girl had seasons every 5 months after that and had phantom pregnancies after each one until I had new spade at 2 years. Good luck

I think if you truely feel that something isnt right with your dog, you should take him/her to a different vet to get a second opinion.
