The Willy Wonka Candy Company is a brand of candy owned by the Nestlé company using licensed materials from the Roald Dahl books for their packaging and marketing. The brand started in 1971, when the Chicago candy company Breaker Confections licensed the "Willy Wonka" name so it could be used as a merchandising tie-in for the movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. In 1980, Breaker Confections changed its name to Willy Wonka Brands. Nestlé then bought the company eight years later, in 1988.
The Hershey Company was founded by Milton S. Hershey in 1894 as the Hershey Chocolate Company, a subsidiary of his Lancaster Caramel Company.
The Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company was founded on April 1, 1891 originally selling products such as soap and baking powder. In 1892, William Wrigley, Jr., the company's founder, began offering chewing gum with each can of baking powder. The chewing gum eventually became more popular than the baking powder itself and Wrigley's reoriented the company to produce the popular chewing gum.
