If your were a completely untrained person looking at the results, then yes you probably would miss it. If you were a trained gastroenterologist, I'd be willing to be it wasn't. One of the reasons for doing a barium swallow is specifically to look for a hiatal hernia of either type. If the tests didn't detect one, then there isn't likely one to be found, and there is some other reason for your problems. While all things are possible, this one isn't probable.
