I'm looking for something both affordable as well as reliable.

I keep hearing good things about TomTom 710 and GARMIN C-340.

does anyone have one of these units or know which is better?

Garmin is the Most Comprehensive Base Maps(Globally)
I use a Garmin GPS5 for Off-Roading, and a Street Pilot C510 for My Vehicle,(Easy to use), and with New SD Card Base Maps makes everything far more accessible!

Im not really sure I just hear a lot about both but my personal opinion is the Magellen by Garmin. My mom uses it and compared it to my uncles TomTom and they both do the same. The Magellen is actually cheaper so that would be my personal choice. Good luck
