one should know what he/she is saying. i love you is the most abused phrase these days, don't you think it should only be said to the person you really love?

Just as the old cliche' goes "There's more than one way to skin a cat" There are many levels to the ever elusive word called love. You can love someone as a friend
You can have love for someone as a sibling or family
You can love someone in an affectionate and sensual way like a man and a woman in love
Love is an emotion not an action so loving someone can't be cheating. Dependant upon how you express your love for someone...now that can change the game.

Hey. First of all, that's a pretty good question. Second of all, IF and only IF you meant it as the way you say you do - brother/sister ways - than it should be alright. Otherwise, if you mean it in other ways or maybe even slightly think you mean it a different way than you should maybe talk to him about it. I was once in the same situation. I was dating a guy for 2 years and was best friends with another guy and when my boyfriend and I broke up, my best friend and I realized we were soul mates and not just best friends. And now, I am happier than EVER. So, my advice is just to think about it and also, perhaps, put yourself in your boyfriends shoes.. What if he was saying "I love you" to another girl? There's a couple ways to think of it. Hope it helps. Peace!

If you say it for fun as friends it should not matter as a lot of girls say it. Its a bit weird the guy says it though. Its a bit strange coming from the guy's perspective. I think if you are all open with each other about your relationships and intentions then there is nothing to hide and no confusion. By simply just saying it and not acting on it or discussing feelings or emotions along with it I think you are safe. It doesnt mean your'e cheating. BUT if you do act on it you are cheating. If you feel something for some one else and not for another guy then you are cheating yourself emotionally. So better to be open and honest as early as possible.

Hope this helps.

You just need to realize that at your age, what you say to another may be taken differently by others. I know it sucks, and it's sometimes awkward, but realizing your actions affect others is part of growing up, even if you have to change the way you do things. Others won't understand your friendship and you'll have to accept that, cause some think it's not normal for guys and girls to be friends only. I truly believe in it, but then I realize others don't. Once you and your friend start having relationships, you'll have to respect the other people's feelings.

What you have with your friend is nothing more than a friendly love. Both of you guys are like brother and sister. It's normal to love your bestfriend in terms of friendship. It's possible to love your bestfriend for the sake of friendship. You love your homie because you both have a special bond. It's fine, girl. Both of your and his partner have to understand this. If there's a problem between you and your boyfriend or his girlfriend, let either know that you both of you have ain't no threat that will destroy your relationship. That's cute what both of you have. Keep this special bond you posses. I hope it last a life time. Good Luck!

In the book "Speaker for the Dead," this concept of love without romance is explored. Is loving your brother the same as loving your husband? If that's a yes to you then why sure it's cheating.

No way, you love him like a bro right? It's the same thing as telling your best girlfriend "I love you". As long as it's meant as that and nothing more, then you are not cheating!

No sweetie, its not cheating. I've been best friends with this girl for almost 9 years and each time we get off the phone or computer we say i love yous too. My husband doesn't see as it's cheating so no, it's not.

No because you're telling him as a friend that you love him like you would say it to you're family. There are too types of love the love where you care about someone but wouldn't want to be with them and the love where you care about them and want to be with them. Yours is the first kind and technically can't be called cheating.

If you don't plan on leaving your boyfriend then I don't see how it's cheating.
You love your brother don't you and you said you guys are more like a brother and sister.
Unless your intend is to get physical with him I wouldn't regard it as cheating.
