I heard on the Today show that the dog belongs to Bill Cosby, and it won the terrier group. I'm convinced the whole thing is a sham now. The judges are a bunch of starf*****s.

my grandfather was a dog breeder for years and showed at MSG. If you think there is no bias in these shows you are wrong

Each purebred breed of dog has been bred for a particular purpose; the Dandie is a very old, rather rare breed, bred ,like most terriers, to hunt vermin.I admit, his appearance is a bit odd to most non-dog people, but I find his expression rather appealing! The dog does indeed belong to, but not bred by, Bill Cosby, but only because he took an interest in the dog & has the money to "back" or "campaign" him! He is on the papers as owner or co-owner & then he pays for the advertising in the dog magazines(judges get them sent to them for free) pays one of the top handlers in the country to show him, usually almost every weekend all over the country, he pays the entry fees & just about everything else! I don't know the exact figures, but I can assure you, it's in the six figure range per year! Fame doesn't come cheap when you are talking top show dogs, & no one is going to put that kind of money on a less than spectacular specimen! For the record, Bill Cosby, along with ret. captain Jean Heath, have bred & owned & have shown top winning Lakeland Terriers for many years! Is it fixed? A lot of exhibitors probably think so..me included. But, my money is on the Akita!!!

The dog was not picked because the judge knows the owner, more likely than not it was because Bill Cosby has the money to get the nicest example of the breed that you can find.

Also, they are groomed weird but they are very nice dogs.

You can see the 'old' style Dandie Dinmont in the center of this page> http://images.google.com/images?client=firefox-a&channel=s&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hl=en&q=dandy+dinmont&btnG=Search+Images
You will notice that it is actually very close to a Dachshund with funny hair and and funnier hair-do..
It is thought that the Dandie Dinmont was mixed with Dachshund to create the wire-haired Dachshund.

Check out some of the pages here to see them in the casual, at-home, kind of clip, and they don't appear nearly as bazaar.>http://images.google.com/images?q=dandie+dinmont&svnum=10&hl=en&rls=GGGL,GGGL:2006-18,GGGL:en&start=18&sa=N&ndsp=18.

I actually am fascinated with the breed. They have such a distinctive look that is so different from other breeds. I don't know what it is about them but I just love their poofy faces and the big black eyes.
