All the Jews I knew seemed to be a LOT more liberal than any Christians that I know. And a lot of them seemed to have a lot of piercings and tattoos, but there isn't anything wrong with that.
Jews are supposed to follow Levitican law, which is in the book of Leviticus in the Bible. The most famous line in that book is "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth." (Christianity stopped following Levitican law when Jesus said "An eye for an eye no more," and gave us the golden rule) Anyway, Levitican law can be described as fair but not just... or just, but not fair, I forget which one.
Anyway, Jews also have the 10 Commandments, just like Christianity, so that's probably the best analogy for you to think about.

the jewish idea of ethics and morality has a very strong focus on the idea of justice. justice between one human being and another, and after that, justice between a human being and G-d. it is so important that building courts of law to enforce justice is listed as one of the seven laws of noah (talmudic laws that state what a non-jew must do to merit a place in the world to come).
"You shall not pervert justice; you shall not show favoritism; and you shall not take a bribe, for bribery blinds the eyes of the wise and perverts just words. Justice, justice shall you pursue, that you may live and posess the land the the Lord your God is giving you."

There's a parable I think that teaches this best. One day a heretic came to the Rabbi Hillel and said "Teach me the entire law as I stand on one foot, and I will become a Jew". The Rabbi Hillel said "alright, treat your neighbour as yourself, that is all, now go and study."
